Introducing Our Liquid-Cooled ESS Lineup: Next-Generation Utility-Scale Energy Storage
We are excited to announce the launch of our liquid-cooled energy storage system (ESS) lineup — a major milestone in our mission to deliver utility-scale storage solutions that meet the demands of modern energy infrastructure.
The new lineup includes two flagship products: the EIT-LCE-418 (417.9 kWh) modular unit and the EIT-LCE-5015 (5.015 MWh) containerized system, both engineered from the ground up with advanced liquid-cooled thermal management.
Why Liquid Cooling Matters
Thermal management is the single most critical factor in battery storage performance and longevity. Temperature directly impacts:
- Cycle life — Every 10°C increase above optimal operating temperature can halve battery lifespan
- Capacity retention — Heat accelerates calendar aging and capacity fade
- Safety — Proper thermal control prevents thermal runaway cascades
- Performance — Cells operate at peak efficiency within a narrow temperature band
Traditional air-cooled systems struggle to maintain uniform cell temperatures, especially in large-scale installations or extreme climates. Liquid cooling solves these challenges decisively.
Liquid Cooling vs. Air Cooling: Head-to-Head
| Parameter | Air-Cooled ESS | Liquid-Cooled ESS |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature uniformity | +/- 5–8°C | +/- 2–3°C |
| Heat transfer efficiency | Baseline | 3–5x higher |
| Max ambient operating temp | 45°C (with derating) | 55°C (no derating) |
| Auxiliary power consumption | 3–5% of rated capacity | 1–2% of rated capacity |
| Noise level | 65–75 dB | 45–55 dB |
| Expected lifespan | 12–15 years | 20+ years |
| Footprint per MWh | Baseline | 30–40% smaller |
"Liquid cooling isn't just an incremental improvement — it's a generational leap in how we design and deploy energy storage at scale."

- Remote monitoring — Cloud-connected SCADA with real-time dashboards and alerts
Engineering the Cooling System
Our liquid cooling architecture uses a glycol-water mixture circulated through precision-machined aluminum cold plates bonded to each battery module. The system operates in a closed loop with the following components:
- Primary loop: Cold plates → manifold → heat exchanger
- Secondary loop: Heat exchanger → dry cooler (outdoor unit)
- Emergency loop: Backup cooling with integrated thermal reservoir
The dual-loop design provides N+1 redundancy — if one circulation pump fails, the system continues operating at full capacity using the backup pump. Coolant flow rates are dynamically adjusted based on real-time thermal demand, minimizing parasitic power consumption during low-utilization periods.
Thermal Performance in Extreme Conditions
We validated our cooling system across all climate zones:
- Hot desert (55°C ambient): Full rated power maintained, peak cell temperature < 35°C
- Tropical humid (40°C, 95% RH): No condensation issues with sealed coolant circuits
- Arctic winter (-30°C): Integrated heating brings cells to operating temperature in < 15 minutes
Applications and Use Cases
The liquid-cooled ESS lineup is designed for demanding utility and commercial applications:
- Grid-scale renewable integration — Smoothing solar and wind variability
- Frequency regulation — Sub-second response for ancillary services markets
- Capacity firming — Guaranteeing dispatchable power from renewable plants
- Transmission and distribution deferral — Avoiding costly grid infrastructure upgrades
